Automated people mover

Airport people movers

Four short automated systems that connect airport terminals to car parks or railway stations. They are not city networks, but travellers meet them constantly and the ticketing rules differ sharply between them.

Ticket options

Luton DART

£4.90 single

Best for Luton Airport Parkway to the terminal

Free if you hold a through rail ticket to "Luton Airport"; charged separately if your ticket says "Luton Airport Parkway". Buy the right one.

Stansted Transit

Free

Best for Terminal to satellite gates

Airside only, no ticket at all.

Gatwick Inter-Terminal Shuttle

Free

Best for North to South Terminal

Runs continuously; allow ten minutes.

Birmingham Air-Rail Link

Free

Best for Birmingham International station to the terminal

A ninety-second cable-hauled ride, included with any rail ticket.

Heathrow Pod

Free

Best for Terminal 5 to the business car parks

Driverless four-seat pods running on their own guideway — one of very few personal rapid transit systems anywhere in the world. Free, and worth riding for its own sake if you have twenty minutes spare.

Fares checked May 2026. Confirm on the operator’s own fares page before you buy.

How to pay

  • Contactless at the gateline where a fare applies
  • Included automatically in through rail tickets to some airports

Concessions

  • Children travel free on all the free shuttles.
  • The Luton DART charges children a reduced fare.

Worth knowing

  1. When booking rail to Luton, always buy to "Luton Airport" rather than "Luton Airport Parkway" — it includes the DART and usually costs less than buying both.
  2. The free shuttles need no planning, but allow ten minutes at Gatwick if you are changing terminals with luggage.
  3. The Heathrow Pod only serves the Terminal 5 business car parks, so it is no use for getting between terminals — use the free Heathrow Express or the Piccadilly line for that.
