Aerial gondola lift

IFS Cloud Cable Car

A gondola line across the Thames between Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks, built for the 2012 Olympics and still run by TfL. It takes Oyster and contactless like everything else in London, but it is priced separately and does not count towards any cap, which catches people out.

How to pay

  • Contactless or Oyster at the terminal
  • Boarding passes bought online or at the ticket office
  • Not included in Travelcards, and does not count towards daily caps

Concessions

  • Under 5s travel free.
  • Children 5–15 pay half fare, but Zip photocards do not give free travel here as they do on buses.
  • 60+ Oyster and Freedom Passes are not valid.

Worth knowing

  1. This is the one TfL mode that sits outside the daily cap. A crossing always costs extra on top of whatever else you have spent.
  2. The nearest connections are North Greenwich on the Jubilee line and Royal Victoria on the DLR, so it slots neatly into a day out east.
  3. It closes in high winds, and evening hours are shorter in winter. Check before making it part of a route rather than a sightseeing trip.
